Senior’s VBS: A Day of Joy, Worship, and Spiritual Growth
On August 5, our Fellowship Hall came alive with laughter, singing, and fellowship as Tonganoxie Christian Church hosted a Senior’s VBS! Over 20 of our senior adults gathered for a day that reminded us all of an important truth: spiritual vitality doesn’t fade with age—it grows deeper.
The morning started with old-timey worship led by Denise Bixby—complete with camp songs and actions that had everyone smiling (and maybe moving a little more than expected!). Then came a craft of painting colorful suncatchers, followed by a fun round of Bible trivia that sparked some good-natured competition.
One of the most meaningful moments was writing notes of encouragement to people in our congregation—a simple way to bless others while practicing the call to build one another up.
Our Bible study focused on James 1:19-20: “Be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.” It was a timely reminder for all of us, no matter our age.
We ended with a classic church potluck featuring fried chicken, an array of sides, and plenty of desserts—because no VBS (even for seniors!) is complete without great food and fellowship.
The day was a celebration of God’s faithfulness and the vibrant faith of those who have walked with Him for many years. It was a reminder that being together strengthens us spiritually, and that our seniors continue to play a vital role in the life and mission of our church.
God isn’t done using them—and He isn’t done using us. What a day to praise Him for that!
